Perhaps it was because Val’s Herbs founder, Valerie Harris-Durham, grew up within the busy concrete streets of America’s northeast, that she so appreciated her summer visits to her grandmother’s rural south.  There, time seemed to stand still, allowing her to listen to the chirping crickets and watch the blinking lightening bugs.  Pursuit of insects and caterpillars drew her nearer to flowers and leaves for closer examination. Nature’s fragrances left her both exhilarated and calmed. The surrounding meadows were filled with dandelions, burdock and stinging nettle.  These and many other herbs would find their way to her grandmother’s kitchen as well as to her grandmother’s first aid chest. It was indeed these childhood encounters with nature that inspired Valerie’s life long appreciation for its gifts and a thirst for greater knowledge of its magnificent benefits.  These childhood encounters eventually gave birth to Val’s Herbs.

Valerie Harris-Durham holds a bachelors degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of Herbal Studies from Clayton College of Natural Health. She is also a Certified Iridologist.
